The Benton B2 Air-Car on the airfield at Chalvey in 1911. This was the 'improved' version of Benton's first double biplane design with a complex crosswind landing gear and the prominent ailerons hanging at rest on both the front and rear upper wings.

The Benton B2 installed in the hangar that Johnny put up on the 35 acre field that he leased from Walter Spackman on Manor Farm, Chalvey from 19th June 1911. The rent until the end of 1911 was £22-10 shillings and Spackman retained the right to harvest the grass. This agreement continued until the end of 1917.

The Benton B6 in an advanced stage of construction. The fuselage is plywood-covered but there are no cowlings on the 4-cyl engine - presumably the 35 hp NEC used in development from the B3 model. The ash and pine wing structure awaits covering, which would make the trailing-edge taper more apparent, and the wheels seem to have been put in place for the benefit of the photographer as the axle is not attached to the rest of the undercarriage. This may be Johnny Benton himself at the controls.
