Регистрационный номер: NR12384 Curtiss Condor NR12384 with "Byrd Antarctic Expedition II" on the fuselage side. It was the only T-32-S (Special ?) and the only one to have an R (Restricted) registration. It was one of two aircraft which were the survivors of the expedition, the other two having crashed were presumably abandoned in the Antarctic?

Регистрационный номер: G-ACIO, G-ACUI, G-ACWR, G-AHTZ, HM581 Cierva Autogiros at Hanworth. L to R, C-30A G-ACUI c/n 705, C-30P G-ACIO c/n 660, and G-ACWR C-30A c/n 731. It was G-ACIO in which Cierva landed on the "Dedalo" on 7.3.34, the preproduction C-30P has the oleo leg attached directly to the fuselage instead of to an outrigger as on the C-30A.
Het Vliegveld: 15.03.34: De la Cierva lands in the harbour of Valencia with his autogiro C.30 on the deck of the seaplane-tender "Dedalo" which has no flying deck. De La Cierva also departs from the ship.
Het Vliegveld: 15.03.34: Cierva himself made the first landing and take-off by an autogiro from a ship in Europe in the harbour of Valencia with pre-production C.30P G-ACIO c/n 660. The Spanish Navy seaplane tender "Dedalo" had a landing platform 16 m x 52 m (52 ft x 170 ft) and the actual date of the event was on 7.3.34.Самолёты на фотографии: Cierva/Avro C.30A / Rota - Великобритания - 1932

Регистрационный номер: F-ALCD The heavily-retouched photo of the CAMS which appeared on p.98/109 in fact shows CAMS 53-2 F-ALCD c/n 28 "Savoie" of Air Orient in the Bay of Naples in early December 1931. It was bringing home Paul Reynaud, Ministre des Colonies and his Chef de Cabinet Gaston Palewski, seen, here standing in hats and overcoats in front of the pilot Pichodou. Reynaud had made use of the scheduled Air Orient service from Bangkok to Calcutta (using the leased Fokker F.VIIb/3m PH-AIC, later to become F-ALSB) with a diversion to Delhi to visit the Viceroy and then on to Karachi and Bagdad. From there, with first a British and then a French air escort, he flew to Damascus and left Beirut in F-ALCD on 29.11.31, arriving in Marseilles on 3.12.31. In this photograph, with the same Neapolitan background, the Air Orient titles and insignia can clearly be seen on the bow with the name "Savoie" below the first two portholes.

Регистрационный номер: F-ALCE The wreckage of F-ALCE which was found 28.04.33 on mount Scifarello near the village of Morano.
Het Vliegveld: 28.04.33: The French CAMS flying boat of the Marseilles-Bagdad service of Air Orient, that has been missing since 23rd April, is found on a 1,700 metres high mountain near Scifarelli, municipality of Saracena in Calabria. Three of the 8 occupants are still alive.
Het Vliegveld: 28.04.33: Further information about the crash of Air Orient CAMS 53-2 F-ALCE in Italy. The weather on 23.04.33 was bad in Corfu and across southern Italy and it was suggested that the pilot Andre Corouge delay or cancel the departure. He insisted on leaving however, as he had to appear in the Marseilles Court of Justice the next day in order to divorce his wife. It left Corfu at 0340 hrs and was flying at 2,500 metres when it was caught in a violent down-draught according to the survivors. The survivors were quoted in the French press as the engineer Callot and passengers Eteve and Mme Gigandet who was a niece of the company president. The radio operator Guillotteau and passengers Duche and Delibes were killed in the crash but Corouge and an American passenger Van Cleef survived for two days before dying of their injuries and exposure. The wreck was found near Morano, Calabria on 28.4.33 and by coincidence on the same day the remains of Bert Hinkler and Puss Moth CF-APK were found in the Appenines at Pian delle Vacche - he had left England on 07.01.33 on a record attempt to Australia.Самолёты на фотографии: CAMS CAMS 51 / CAMS 53 / CAMS 56 - Франция - 1926

Only two examples were manufactured of the LeO-built 2-seat C.L.10 / Cierva C-27 Autogiro. C/n 01 is here displayed at the 13th Paris Salon on 18.11.32 to 4.12.32. It had not yet flown. It was identical to c/n 02 in which Pierre Martin was killed on 19.12.32.
Het Vliegveld: 19.12.32: The test-pilot of Liore-et-Olivier, Pierre Martin, is killed at Villacoublay in a crash of the new type of autogiro built by that firm. It is the first fatal accident with this kind of airplane.
Het Vliegveld: 19.12.32: Test pilot Pierre Martin who was killed in the C.L.10/Cierva C.27 crash already had over 30 hours experience on fixed-spindle autogiros. Cierva believed that he had tried to take-off with the control column locked, and this is supported by the description of the accident: that the C.L.10 after a somewhat unusual take-off, climbed sharply to about 200 ft before diving into the ground. This is described in Peter W Brooks' book Cierva Autogiros on p. 165, which reference reminds us that Cierva applied the name Autogiro as a trade name (spelt with an 'i') whereas the generic term for all such machines is autogyro (spelt with a 'y', as in gyrocopter, etc.).Самолёты на фотографии: Liore et Olivier CL.10 - Франция - 1932
