Регистрационный номер: S1105 The 1926 Cairo - Cape Flight took their Fairey IIIDs to Capetown, starting from Heliopolis on 1 March 1926. All four arrived on 12 April 1926 and left to return to Egypt on 22 April. Fitted with floats after arriving at Aboukir on 29 May, the Flight proceeded to Lee-on-Solent, arriving on 21 June. All four appeared at the RAF Pageant at Hendon on 3 July 1926, a testimony to the sturdy nature of the IIID.

Регистрационный номер: N9491, N9498 Fairey IIIDs N9491 and N9498 on the beach. The Union Flag on the fuselage is unusual and we think this photograph was taken at Kilia, Turkey, in 1921, during the Chanak crisis. The upsurge of nationalism following the overthrow of the Ottoman Empire had resulted in fears that the conditions of the Armistice would not be adhered to. Both aircraft were with No.267 Squadron at Malta and were taken to the Dardanelles aboard HMS Argus.

Регистрационный номер: J6656 Bristol Fighter J6656 was with No.28 Squadron when this photograph was taken in the early 1930s, by which time the Biff's time in the Royal Air Forces was almost up. It carried the code letter G and operated from Ambala before being replaced by an Audax. The pilot appears to be wearing a Bombay Bowler.

Grumman J2F-1 0185 was assigned to the US Naval Air Station at Coco Solo in the Panama Canal Zone. On 12 October 1938, the engine cut just after take-off and the pilot landed straight ahead. The aircraft was sent off for a major overhaul and if one had to forceland and aircraft the J2F's large float was an asset. Although the tail appears intact, the strut between fin and tailplane has buckled.

This Grumman F3F-2 of Marine Fighter Squadron Two has gone into the barrier. George Kernahan has searched through his records and found that 1/LT Robert Galer in 0972 made a normal landing aboard Saratoga on 8 October 1940, caught a wire but the hook tip broke off. The aircraft rolled forward and nosed up in the barriers. The hook tip can be seen to be missing in the photo. The pilot, who went on to become a Brigadier-General, looks unhappy. Perhaps he is uncertain what the sailor with the hose is going to do.

Регистрационный номер: XF632, G-AHPM A rather strange colour scheme for Viking XF632 includes the name Lord Rodney. It is, in fact, G-AHPM carrying roundels so that it can operate into non-civil airfields in the Suez Canal Zone under the Anglo-Egyptian Treaty.

Canadian Armed Forces Canadair CP-107 Argus 10737 of No.415 Squadron, Summerside, NS, seen at Trenton on 10 June 1972. The Argus was based on the Britannia but had four 3,700 hp Wright R-3370 engines to avoid the need to provide back-up for Bristol Proteus engines in Canada. It replaced the Lancaster 10MRs in the maritime reconnaissance units.

Регистрационный номер: N150 Blackburn Blackburn N150 during deck-landing trials aboard HMS Argus on 23 August 1922. Fore-and-aft arrester wires are carried and picked up by grips on the axle which was dispensed with on production aircraft. On this occasion, N150 was launched using a trolley running on a monorail, an early development of a flight deck accelerator.

Регистрационный номер: N4082 This Felixstowe F.2A carries the name 'Oldblackeye 1' on the bows. The middle two digits of the serial are obscured by the tailplane struts. The back of the photo is blank but Chris Semmens has come through AB-IX to identify it as N4082, apparently used by the US Navy at Killingholme at the end of the war. The two occupants of the cockpit appear to be civilians.

The Curtiss XA-4 was a ground attack variant of the Curtiss range of two-seat general purpose aircraft, mainly the O-1 series. For test purposes, 27-244 was fitted with a 440 hp P&W R-1340-1 Wasp radial in place of the normal watercooled engines of the A-3 series. Armament was intended to be two 0.30-in guns in the lower wings and bomb racks.

Регистрационный номер: SR133, SR136 Sitting outside the then-new control tower at Luton are two Southern Rhodesian Air Force Percival types in 1954. On the left is SR133, a Pembroke for No.3 Squadron which until then had flown Ansons and Rapides. The Provost T.52 is SR136, four of the type arriving on 26 October 1954 and eight more on Christmas Day for No.2 Squadron. On 15 October the SRAF had become the RRAF.

A formation of Supermarine Southamptons of the Argentine Navy includes P-157 and P-158. Between them is probably P-156 as the top of the '6' is just visible on the original. The black stripes on the hulls and floats are presumably caulking strips to keep them watertight.
