    Junkers Ju-52/3m HB-HOS, seen during the summer of 1959. It was later coded A-701. In 1939 the aircraft had entered military service with two other examples. They were first employed for observer training. After 42 years' service the Junkers were retired, and in 1981 were purchased by Ju-Air and operated on enthusiasts’ pleasure flights.

    North American P-51D Mustang J-2037, formerly 44-72316, was one of 130 examples purchased from the USAF in 1948. The type was used by the Swiss Air Force as an interceptor for ten years from March 1948, until replaced by the D.H.112 Venom 4.

    All the Swiss Mustangs except J-2113 were scrapped. It is seen here with all its weapons at the Sixty Years of the Swiss Air Force exhibition, held at Dubendorf in June 1964. Today this Musta ng is still on display at Dubendorf, in the Fliegertruppe Museum.

    Fieseler Fi-156C Storch A-96, c/n 4299, was originally delivered as HB-ARU to Aero St Gallen at Altenrhein and used for pleasure flying in the Alps, for which purpose it was mounted on skis. From 1950 until 1963, when it was retired, the aircraft flew with the Swiss Air Force as A-96 on communications work. In 1965 the Storch was transferred to Munich for static display in the Deutsches Museum von Meisterwerken der Naturwissenschaft und Technik, where it remains today.

    Morane D-3801 J-164 during refuelling at Kagiswil. About 70 D-3801s were operated by the Fliegerschule at this time, before they were scrapped in the Fifties. Only three examples have survived, many having been burnt during fire practice and others having been cannibalised on children’s playgrounds.

    Morane D-3801 J-160, one of a batch of 207, was built under licence by F & W Emmen and Dornier Altenrhein. The aircraft saw service between 1941 and 1959. It is seen here at Stans in 1957. The Morane D-3800 was a Swiss licence-built version of the French Morane-Saulnier MS.406, powered by an 860 h.p. Hispano 12Y-31. Production was undertaken by the Swiss Dornier-Werke AG at Altenrhein in 1939. Production of the D-3801, powered by a 1,000 h.p. Hispano 12Y-51 engine, began in 1940. Initially the type was used for close-support duties, but after the arrival of Vampires in 1946 it was relegated to the training role.
