    The tail section of DC-4 N88852 which crashed in a residential area of Seattle on 18.11.55. It was operated on an Army charter by Peninsular Air Transport, yet carried the large letters SEA on the fin and rudder; since Southeast & Peninsular A/T was the company title at one time, was there a pre-merger South East Airlines?
    18.11.55 Peninsular Air Transport DC-4 N88852 c/n 3123 carrying troops from Boeing Field, Seattle to Chicago had No. 4 engine fail after take-off. Capt William McDougall was unable to feather the propeller and the aircraft crashed in the yard of 12010 Des Moines Way, Seattle at midnight on 17-18.11.55. Twenty-eight passengers were killed, three crew and 42 passengers injured (though figures vary!). Maintenance failure blamed.

    The tail section of DC-6B N37559 which was found two miles from the rest of the wreckage after a dynamite bomb caused America's first proven case of aircraft sabotage on 1.11.55.
    1.11.55 United Airlines DC-6B N37559 c/n 43538 "Mainliner Denver" on New York - Chicago - Denver - Portland - Seattle flight destroyed by bomb planted by John Gilbert Graham, who had insured his mother Mrs Daisy King for $37,500 with a vending machine $1.50 policy at Denver Airport. The dynamite exploded in the rear baggage hold at 1903 MST at 11,000 ft and Capt Lee H Hall, 4 crew and all 39 passengers were killed in the wreck near Longmont, Colorado, about 35 miles N of Denver. Graham was found guilty of murder and executed but the policy would never have paid out as his mother had not signed it.
