The Junkers Ju 52/3mge became the first all-metal airliner of SABENA in 1936 when they obtained OO-AGU c/n 5510, OO-AGV c/n 5514 and OO-AGW c/n 5672. The pilots of OO-AGW were guilty of some unnecessarily low flying on 6.6.36 and 9.6.36 when landing or taking off from Croydon.

PH-AKK was DC-2-115E c/n 1364 "Koetilang" of KLM. The KLM fleet all had names begining with the last letter of the registration, except for the phonetic PH-KLQ "Kwak"

A good close-up of the nose of Douglas DC-2-115E c/n 1356 PH-AKJ "Jan van Gent" of KLM. NACA cowlings enclose the two 710 hp Wright SGR-1820 9-cyl radial engines, propellers are 3-blade Hamilton Standard controllable pitch. This aircraft was the sixteenth of the type to be assembled by Fokker, in 1935, and was captured by the Luftwaffe on 16.5.40. In all the Dutch company sold 39 DC-2s and 46 DC-3s although this success was at the expense of their own designs which still used steel tube fuselage and wooden wing technology. KLM operated eighteen DC-2s on routes such as Amsterdam to Croydon.

DH.90A Dragonfly G-AEWZ c/n 7555 survived to be returned to the register postwar but was dbr on 3.3.61. Pre-war it was operated by Air Service Training Ltd from Hamble and was logged at Croydon for a landing indiscretion on 14.6.38.

Fiat G-18V c/n 6 I-EURE (two 1000 hp Fiat A80-RC4N 18-cyl 2-row radial engines) seen in a hangar at Croydon. The pilots of Avio Linee Italiane flew with a certain panache and disregard for the regulations, as for example with this aircraft on 13.6.38 and 14.6.38 when several complaints were made!
