Wellington I NZ301 was one of six ordered for the RNZAF (NZ300 - NZ305) but not delivered and given unused 'blackout' serials for the RAF. The New Zealand Flight formed to train crews on the type became No75 Sqdn in April 1940. NZ301 visited Elmdon on 6.9.39, later becoming L4330.

Wellington I L7770 was the first built at Chester and was the only Chester-built example in service when war was declared on September 3rd 1939. Note the single-gun Vickers turret of the Mk.I. L7770 first visited Elmdon on 13.9.39 when 99 Squadron was temporarily resident between 9.9.39 and 15.9.39.

The prototype DH.90 Dragonfly G-ADNA c/n 7500 was owned by Southern Airways of Heston from 4.39 until 17.4.40 when it was impressed as X9452. It is shown here as being operated on Army Cooperation flights by Western Airways, between 30.8.39 and 1.9.39.

Photographed at Lee on Solent is Percival Q6 AX860, c/n Q.24, previously F-AQOK and Western Airways' G-AFVC from 30.6.39 to 10.5.40. It visited Elmdon on Army Cooperation duties 30.8.39 to 1.9.39 and it was damaged in a forced landing at Brieriey, Staffordshire on 5.10.39. Note that it does not have the circular central cabin window fitted to all later Q6 aircraft.
