    Puss Moth c/n 2214 PH-MAG with registration matching the initials of its first owner. The original print seems to have been a postcard titled "Sportvliegtuig" (Sports aircraft) and on close examination is clearly a montage, the two aircraft in flight being identical views of a Fokker D.VII with serial 263!

    C/n 2221 J-BBAA and c/n 2222 J-BBBA are seen in Japan with two other examples, the one next in line with spats also carries the sunray flag symbol of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper. The Japanese Army ordered 15 Puss Moths for communications use.

    G-ABVX c/n 2228 was 'Gilford" of Hillman's Airways who used it as an air taxi based, as seen here, at Maylands until 1935. Impressed as X5044 it was soc for spares at the end of the war.

    The practical uses of a fast cabin monoplane able to carry a good load were soon appreciated by business and commercial concerns. J S Fry and Sons (Fry's Chocolates) publicised their 'Air Transport Dept' with a series of press photos featuring Puss Moth G-ABWZ c/n 2236 in September 1932. It is shown here being 'loaded' with cartons of Malted Milk Cocoa - with eggs, by some of the female workforce of the company's Somerdale factory which can be seen behind.

    Mr Hachisuka arrived in Germany from London to take part inn the 1932 Round Europe flight. He is seen, right, at Staaken on 12.8.32 being welcomed by Herr von Hoeppner, vice president of the Aero Club, in front of G-ABXJ c/n 2238 with a fuel flow test seen in operation on the Gipsy Major engine. The subsequent history of this Puss Moth is still unknown.

  • C/ns 2224, 5 and 6 were purchased for the Iraqi Air Force. One of the three, this example has an upwards-opening door for use as an ambulance and is fitted with racks below the cabin for four 20 lb bombs. Also clearly visible here is the operating arm for the strut airbrake.

    G-ABYP c/n 2233 was purchased by Dunlop in 8.32 to test their aviation products. It made a European Tour 30.8.32 to 29.9.32 to demonstrate the Dunlop pneumatic braking system and was later used to test their hydraulic braking system. It is seen here at Castle Bromwich, presumably during their ownership.

    G-ABYW c/n 2240 at Porthcawl about 1935 has the opposing-contrast paint scheme used on some Puss Moths from mid-1931. Visible is the transparent cabin roof which incorporated a spring-loaded emergency escape hatch.
