  • Регистрационный номер: G-AARZ

G-AARZ was the prototype Avro 621 Tutor c/n 322 owned by the makers and previously leased to National Aviation Day Displays. It was the entry of Portuguese pilot Placido d'Abreu and at the time of the Competition it may have been on demonstration to the Portuguese Air Force which ordered the later Avro 626, also built under licence by OGMA. On the second day of the contest d'Abreu was attempting a half roll from inverted during his Free programme but the Tutor spun in from low altitude, crashed and burned. A non-competing French pilot had died in a landing accident shortly before.

  • Регистрационный номер: G-ACJA

F/Lt Christopher Clarkson was originally entered in an Armstrong Whitworth AW 16 but when the aircraft failed to materialise he managed to borrow "a pretty tired workhorse", the DH82A Tiger Moth G-ACJA c/n 3191 that was at Le Bourget en route back to England after a demonstration at the Geneva Aero Show the previous month. It had a heavy ferry tank in the faired-over front cockpit and no inverted fuel/oil systems, so Clarkson stood little chance against the specialist aerobatic types although he was commended in the French press for his spirited display.

Het Vliegveld: 04.09.36: "A certain Mrs Beryl Markham has taken off for a useless flight from England to America. She flies alone and has no radio on board." - so the Dutch editor described this particular expedition and, after her successful arrival, he added "This however still does not prove the usefulness of her trip".
Het Vliegveld: 04.09.36: Mrs Beryl Markham achieved the first non-stop east-to-west solo Trans-Atlantic flight by a woman, despite the derogatory remarks of the Dutch Editor of "Het Vliegveld". She took off from RAF Abingdon at 1850 hours on 4.9.36 in Lord Carberry's Percival Vega Gull VP-KCC c/n K.34 'The Messenger" and 21 hours 35 minutes later made a forced landing, short of fuel, in a peat bog at Baleine on Cape Breton Island.
