Two Navy Type 15 three-seat seaplanes of Kaibo Gikai. Both were Nakajima-built and used for fish spotting in Shizuoka prefecture. In the foreground J-BBUG is Giyu No. 8, while the other, J-BBYG is Giyu No.9.

A JAPANESE GLIDER: This glider, designed by Prof. H. Sato, was constructed by the students of the Aeroplane Department of the Imperial University, Fukuoka. Pilot Shizura made a flight of 8 min. 15 sec. on this glider.
Previously listed as an 'unknown glider' type, J-BCAH is now revealed to be a Sato Training Glider, Type 2. It appears to be a fairly basic primary type with nacelle.

Illustrating two aircraft which appeared in our earlier J-B... lists, this photograph shows a pair of Gasuden KR-1 Chidori cabin biplane Fox Moth derivatives on metal floats, J-BBMI in the foreground and J-BBNI behind. Both these examples were supplied to Kaibo Gikai (Maritime Defence Volunteer Association) and leased to NKYK. J-BBMI became Giyu No.13 and J-BBNI become Giyu No.12.

This issue includes a significant number of previously unrecorded glider registrations as well as newly-researched powered aircraft. Here J-BBDQ, an Itoh Type C-2 gets airborne from a bungee launch. Other than the fin/rudder shape the basic outline is similar to that most successful of pre-war sailplanes the Grunau Baby, although the C-2 is slightly larger and lighter. Built by the Itoh Aeroplane Manufacturing company founded by Otojiro Itoh, the C-2 was designed for soaring with a wing span of 14.21m, length 6.232m, wing section Gottingen 535, aspect ratio 13.0 and empty weight of 145kg

J-BBGD was a Kirigamine "Taka" glider, a small single-seater designed for soaring. With its high-mounted wing and parallel struts it was similar in appearance to the Slingsby Tutor. There were three versions of the "Taka". This is first version with a span of 10.8m, length 5.77m, wing section Gottingen 580, aspect ratio 8.21, and empty weight 122.5kg.
