No registration was carried by the Swift prototype on its first test flight in the hands of its designer Nicholas Comper. For this flight only, as seen here, it used a wood propeller without a spinner.

The prototype Swift with 40 hp ABC Scorpion in a pointed nose prior to the application of the registration. The fuselage lines and shape of the fin and rudder show its close relationship to the CLA 3.

Used for development testing, G-AARX is seen with a fin fillet added to improve directional control. It is seen with demonstration pilot L S Snaith later in 1930 at Sealand.

The CLA 2 viewed from the rear shows its 1924 Lympne competition number "3" on the rudder and the two-seat side-by-side cockpit under the wing centre section, ailerons on both upper and lower wings.

The C.L.A.3, from which the Swift evolved, seen at Cranwell shortly after completion in 1925. When compared with the prototype Swift, the similarities are obvious.
The CLA 3 in its original form for the 1925 trials with wood propeller but no spinner. The engine was again the Bristol Cherub.

Now registered G-EBMC, the CLA 3 shows off its clean lines in a fast flypast. The pilot is hidden under the centre section but the pitot is visible ahead of the left wing front strut.

The first CLA 4 in a fast low flyover exhibits clean lines for a biplane, emphasised by the single interplane struts with their triangular attachments and the pointed nose.
