Регистрационный номер: G-ADLN During early examination of Menasco engines, Miles fitted Hawk Major M2R G-ADLN c/n 211 with the 125 hp 4-cyl Menasco C4 Pirate engine as seen here. The photo was probably taken soon after the installation of the C4, but although trials were satisfactory official response was not encouraging and no further action took place.

Регистрационный номер: G-AEKN, G-AEKW This photo was taken on the same flight. The sliding hood did not slide backwards in the usual way but downwards into the fuselage sides, requiring the sections to be flexible in order to close at the top. In the photo the front cockpit sides are fully down (open). Difficulties in producing these was a cause of delay in issuing the CofA.

Регистрационный номер: A14-5, VH-UZW Tugan Gannet A14-5 ex VH-UZW c/n TA-59 with two Gipsy Six engines and with small fins added on the tail plane to improve directional stability. No photo was found of A14-7 which had Menasco B6S engines but, except for having right hand traction propeller rotation and engine cooling intakes being on the right side, there was little visual difference. The B6S engines served four years.

Регистрационный номер: L6346 The Peregrine II L6346 was specially designed with a wing configuration for flight testing boundary layer suction. The engines were Menasco B6S-4 giving 290 hp. The tail unit was completely redesigned for the Mk.II and the fin and rudder were metal covered, the first departure by Miles from their use of all-wood structures.

Регистрационный номер: NR55Y Ben Howard's second racer, DGA-4 "Mike" NR55Y Race No.38 with Harold Neumann in the cockpit in 1934. According to Howard the DGA stood for 'Damn Good Airplane'. The fuselage was welded steel tube with wood stringers, the wood wing was wire braced and the aircraft was fabric covered. There was no springing on the undercarriage.

Регистрационный номер: NR56Y Howard's "Ike" was DGA-4 NR56Y No.39, identical to "Mike" except that its B6S used fuel with a slightly higher octane rating, it had different cowling louvres as seen here, and the longer spats enclosed twin wheel assemblies, later reverting to single wheels.

Регистрационный номер: NX261Y Keith Rider's R-4 as the "Schoenfeldt Firecracker" NX261Y No.70 in 1939. It was smaller than the R-1 with a wing span of only 18 ft (5.4 m) and the undercarriage retracted inwards. The Menasco C6S-4 engine was boosted to give 300 hp. Tony LeVier won races with it in 1938 and continued to fly it in 1939.

Регистрационный номер: NX96Y The Rider R-6 NX96Y "Eight Ball" No.18 of 1939 had a wing with a Spitfire-like planform but engine problems kept it from scoring. The paint scheme was described as 'dusty-blue'.

Регистрационный номер: R51Y [2], NR51Y [2] In 1936 Rudy Kling renamed the R-1 "Suzy", rebuilt it with an enclosed cockpit and repainted it blue and cream. Unfortunately he crashed it into a car driven onto the airfield when landing, writing it off but escaping with minor cuts himself.
