The Streak is seen getting a lot of attention at Brooklands. It seems that Percival Aircraft, producers of the Mew Gull racer, found the Streak interesting, as Gull G-ACPA (in its third and final form with Gipsy 6 and production spats) belongs to Lt Cdr Edward Leake, co-founder with Percival of the company in 1932. However, the Streak never won a race.

The aileron mass balances are prominent in this view of the Streak overtaking the camera aircraft; after they were added no other modifications were required. No registration was carried on the early flights made from Heston.

The one and only Comper Streak with its tail up on a trestle shows slightly cranked low wing and left hand tractor metal propeller on its Gipsy engine with left side air intake.

Here all the unbalanced control surfaces are seen, also the equal-taper low wing in its initial form with no root fairing. The tailplane has a bracing wire to the fin kingpost above and a small bracing strut to the fuselage below on each side.

Compared with the Caudron C450 winner of the 1934 Coupe Deutsch and the Percival Mew Gull the Streak was lower powered and looked dumpy, a feature that gave the pilot a poor forward view.

The Comper Streak with 146 hp Gipsy Major engine at Heston for a series of photos in April 1934. Its small overall size is apparent with works manager J Graham providing scale.

Well shown in this view is the low wing with dihedralled mainplanes and pitot on the starboard wing leading edge. The undercarriage retracted backwards leaving the wheels projecting to provide emergency support in the event of a failure to extend.

The Streak is safely airborne on its second flight but the Dowty undercarriage remains extended as flight tests of its operation have not yet been made.

In the 1933 Coupe Deutsch, Comper in Gipsy Swift G-ABWW as No.2 came third but the winner was Georges Detre at 322.8 km/hr (200 mph) in Potez 53 c/n 3402 No.10 with big 310 hp Potez 9-cyl radial engine, seen here at the Musee de l'Air in June 1969.

The Streak was ready for the 1934 Coupe Deutsch but had to retire. Seen here is the eventual winner Caudron 450 c/n 6910 No.13 taking off with tail up and full left rudder to counter swing, flown by Maurice Arnoux.
