Three-and-a-half hours after this picture was taken at Heathrow, Stuart Bloomer and fiancee Lorraine Byworth were landing at JFK Airport, New York, at the start of a six-day holiday in the city.
The Boeing photograph shows Boeing Stratocruiser N1025V Clipper America taking off from Boeing Field, Seattle, in July 1949, en route for Portland for the official delivery ceremony to Pan American World Airways. It was the first of its type delivered to the airline.
