    Avro 504M K-134, later G-EACX, was a cabin conversion of the Avro 504K. Two passengers were seated in a covered cabin behind the pilot. Note the 504 seaplane-type fin and the porthole-style cabin windows. K-134 flew mostly from Hounslow Heath during 1919 20 but is seen here at Hendon.

    Seen competing in the 1919 Aerial Derby at Hendon in June 1919 is this partially-converted Bristol M.1C flown by owner Maj Chichester Smith. Formerly C4964, this M.1C was registered G-EAER shortly before the race. Numbered 12 for the Aerial Derby, it developed a problem with its 110 h.p. le Rhone rotary engine and was forced to retire.

    Although bearing the RAF serial number F2903, this Boulton and Paul P.7 Bourges IA flew as a civil aircraft, first as K-129 and later as G-EACE. This highly manoeuvrable two-seat day bomber was powered by a couple of 320 h.p. ABC Dragonfly radial engines.

    Pictured at Hendon in the summer of 1919 is the first aeroplane in Britain, and possibly the world, to receive a civil registration. The K- system of registration was used for just one month from May 1919, beginning with K-100 and ending with K-175. K-100 was allocated to the D.H.6 seen here being started with the aid of a Hucks starter. Generally flown at Hendon by Capt Gerald Gathergood, the D.H.6 was re-registered G-EAAB when the new system was introduced on July 22, 1919.

    In the foreground is BAT F.K.23 Bantam K-155, later G-EAFN, carrying the racing number 5. This and other Bantams were raced at Hendon weekends during 1919, Cyril Turner invariably flying K-155, which was owned by the British Aerial Transport Company Ltd. K-155's registration was allowed to lapse in June 1920. The engine was a 170h.p. ABC Wasp. Behind K-155 may he seen another Bantam, this time a Grahame-White G.W.E.6A Bantam, registered K-153, later G-EAFL. The 20ft span biplane was powered by an 80 h.p. le Rhone rotary.

    Another Grahame-White G.W.E.6 Bantam, K-150, later to become G-EAFK, taking part in the 1919 Aerial Derby at Hendon in June 1919. Numbered 2 for the event, K-150 was flown by Capt P.R.T. Chamberlayne but forced-landed at Epsom. The following month the same pilot crashed K-150 into a hangar at Hendon and wrote the biplane off.
