E. “Cass” Cassidy, pilot, front left, and Peter Howland, towing gear operator, rear left, are watched by two No 3 CAACU groundcrew as they prepare for a target-towing sortie. The Mosquito towing gear consisted of a propeller-driven winch, 6,000ft of cable and four target drogues.

These exercises were carried out in order to train ground troops to operate with and against low-flying aircraft. A Jersey Airlines DC-3 may be seen in the background. The return trip from Exeter to Gatwick cost £6 10s.
