Another new sight in the Old Flying Machine Company hangar at Duxford is Hawker Hunter F.6 XF375, destined for eventual restoration to airworthiness. The aircraft has been at Duxford for some time, but stored away from public view.

Hawker Tempest MW763 continues its progress towards airworthiness in Autokraft’s workshops at Brooklands. The fuselage is seen here temporarily fitted with the partly-restored engine mount, in order to allow accurate refabrication of skin panels. Meanwhile, the internal wing structure is complete, the undercarriage is in place and reskinning is about to begin.

The Imperial War Museum’s BAC TSR.2 XR222 poses outside a Duxford hangar next to an example of the aircraft intended to take its place in the RAF, General Dynamics F-111E 67-120, which arrived at the Cambridgeshire airfield last October. Duxford’s museum staff reckon this is the first time the two types have been brought together - a sight guaranteed to boil the blood of those with whom the TSR.2 project’s cancellation in 1965 still rankles.

Looking a bit jowly with its bulged bottom cowling, former Rochester Spitfire PR.XI PL965 took to the air piloted by Mark Hanna for the first time in its new colours at Duxford on February 4, 1994, after 12 months’ work in the Old Flying Machine Company’s hangar.
