    Amid the excitement surrounding the warbird exodus to New Zealand, Jet Heritage’s ex-Loughborough Hawker Hunter F.4 XE677/G-HHUN made a successful first post-restoration flight at Bournemouth on January 21, 1994 in the hands of Adrian Gjertsen. The aircraft is seen here, in various shades of natural metal and primer, making a slow pass before landing.

    Jack Rogers, who sent in the picture, comments that Sydney Camm must be spinning in his grave at about 10,000 r.p.m. at the sight of Old Flying Machine Company Hawker Fury G-BTTA’s new (and temporary) paint scheme. It has been applied to disguise the fighter as a “German reconnaissance fighter” for the filming of Fall from grace, a two-part TV mini-series about SOE operations before D-Day.

    Another of Australia’s airworthy Polish-built MiG-15s: this one is VH-XIG / 612782, owned by John Waymouth of Victoria River Downs, Northern Territory. The ban on operating the type, following the crash of VH-LSN last March, was lifted six months afterwards pending a number of conditions.

    Also at Skysport, and seen here nestling behind the Viima’s wings, is Aero Vintage Hawker Demon K8203. The fuselage and fin are complete, and the project is “resting” before work begins on the wings. Another current job at Skysport is former Mosquito Aircraft Museum B.E.2e A1325, being rebuilt to fly with an RAF Ia engine from Shuttleworth.

    Rebuilt by Shipping and Airlines at Biggin Hill, Miles Messenger G-AKVZ made its first flight for more than 21 years on January 20, 1994, in the hands of Mike Dunkerley. One of 21 Mk Is built by Miles for the RAF, 'VZ was fitted with square rear windows for observation duties.

    Skysport Engineering’s Tim Moore, in conjunction with Mike Vaisey and other members of the self-styled “Gemini Wanderers” group, took delivery of dilapidated Miles Gemini 3A G-AKEK on December 5 last year. Last flown in 1972, ’EK will be rebuilt as a private sparetime project. “Everyone, ourselves included, thinks we’re mad to take it on”, Moore tells Grapevine. “But it’s fun.”
