This drop model of Concorde spent its working life being suspended under, and released from, a Westland Whirlwind helicopter to assess recovery from potentially hazardous attitudes in flight.

This beautiful mahogany wind-tunnel model of the Saro Princess was carved in the RAE’s workshops in about 1947. The Spitfire at upper right was the first all-metal wind-tunnel model.

Two Tupolevs: models of the unlicensed (!) version of the B-29, designated Tu-4, and the Tu-16, used to study the best attack angles for infra-red homing missiles.

The RAE built this 1/4-scale Handley Page H.P.114 (H.P.115 ???) model for tests in Farnborough’s 24ft wind-tunnel. The all-black model had white liquid poured over it to indicate the airflow.
