Desoutter G-AAWT was sold to the Dutch East Indies in 10.33 then regd PK-SAN to a Surabayan company 27.12.33. DH.60M PK-SAF was based at Surabaya from 3.8.33, as was Pander EG-100 PK-SAJ from 6.2.33. It would seem that the photo must have been taken in late 1933 at Surabaya, NEI. (Credit H.Hazewinkel in Digest Nov/Dec 1978) The KNILM Fokker F.VIIB may be PK-AFG from evidence on the original print.

To celebrate the centenary of the birth of Geoffrey de Havilland, the Moth Club arranged an aerial weekend tour for vintage DH types to such locations as Hatfield, Chester and Farnborough. It ended at White Waltham on 4.7.82 with the scene shown, forty-eight DH aircraft and various support craft all on the field together.

Регистрационный номер: G-ACFV, VH-UXD It should not prove too difficult to identify the aircraft involved in this accident, the registration is clear enough. Perhaps surprising is the fact that it was rebuilt and the following year was flying in New Guinea! Details of the accident, other than just date and place, and of G-ACFV's subsequent history would be welcome.
G-ACFV This was an Avro 642 of Midland & Scottish Air Ferries, named "Marchioness of Londonderry" and based at Hooton for the Liverpool-Birmingham-London service. It left Romford 4.6.34 with 2 crew and 1 passenger but ran out of fuel and force-landed in a field at Cerrig-y-Druidion, Denbigh. Fifty gallons of petrol were obtained but on take-off G-ACFV caught a wall at the end of the field with the evident result. Регистрационный номер: G-AAWO [2] This Gipsy Moth is assumed to be G-AAWO (c/n 1235), but can anyone explain the significance of the symbols on the cowling? The photo, by P.R.A.Barrington, via Don Hannah, is said to have been taken at White Waltham in 1953 but this must be at least partly incorrect as the presence of a British-registered Piaggio P.136 on the right puts it between 1955 and 1958. Any other suggestions would be welcome!

The type is not too difficult, it is a Grahame-White G.W.E.6 Bantam. The insignia just visible on the fin is that of the Gnat Aero Co, so this is most likely to be G-EAFL which was reconditioned by Gnat at Shoreham in 1926. Was the photo therefore taken after 1926? Where? What was the fate of G-EAFL?
