Spitfire prototype K5054 in its overall light blue colour scheme, adopted shortly after its maiden flight. Armament would later be fitted to the aircraft, and the exhausts would be modified.

A painting, by the Charles "Jo" Jurd, of Spitfire prototype K5054 flying over Supermarine’s Woolston works, just across the River Itchen from the main part of Southampton, in 1936. At the time, a new office block was being erected and a batch of Seagull V (Walrus) amphibians was being built for the Royal Australian Air Force.

A reminder of Supermarine’s heyday. One of the two S.6 racing seaplanes for the 1929 Schneider Trophy contest, N247, afloat on the Itchen. Flown by Fg Off H.R.D. Waghorn, N247 won the event for Britain at 328-63 m.p.h.

The Woolston works of Vickers-Supermarine as they looked before they were destroyed by bombing in September 1940. A Walrus is at the top of the slipway, and one of the chain ferries across the River Itchen is visible on the right.

ACCEPTANCE TRIAL: One of the production-type Supermarine Scapa flying boats (two 525 h.p. Rolls-Royce Kestrel III engines) being launched for a test flight prior to delivery. The Scapa is the latest type of flying boat to go into service with the R.A.F.
The author considered the Supermarine Scapa flying-boat, with its Rolls-Royce Kestrel inline engines, the most aesthetically pleasing design. The type is represented here by production aircraft K4200.
