FIST OF FURY by P. Jackson. On the 9th of August 1951 over Chinnampo North Korea, LT. P. Carmichael of 807 Squadron, flying a Sea Fury FB 11 WJ232 114-0, Shot Down a Mig 15 Fighter Jet, this this almost certainly being the only jet claim by this foremost pistoned engined fighter. This version of this famous Engagement is captured superbly well by Phil and is now available in a limited edition print of only 50 signed and numbered by the artist.

The airfields on some of BOAC’s routes included some of the most exacting in the world, combining high altitude with short runways, prompting the company to undertake proving flights with the VC10 as far afield as Johannesburg and Lagos, where this picture of G-ARVF was taken.

After the Hughes Hercules (“Spruce Goose”) had made an extremely brief flight in November 1947, rumours were rife in spring 1951 that Howard Hughes would once again take to the air in the gargantuan flying-boat. It actually never flew again, and is now housed in the Evergreen Aviation Center in Oregon.

Trevor “Wimpey” Wade (so named after the character in Popeye cartoons) wrote regularly for The Aeroplane after leaving the RAF in 1945, before returning to test flying in 1947 for Hawker Aircraft. He is seen here in the cockpit of the Hawker P.1081 in which he lost his life, his parachute failing to open after his ejection from the aircraft.
