Shuttleworth Collection Westland Lysander G-AZWT is being repainted in the overall black colours of a 161 Sqn machine, V9367/MA-B, flown by 19-year-old Peter Vaughan-Fowler from Tempsford on Operation Apollo on the night of November 25-26, 1942. The mission saw Vaughan-Fowler fly solo to Thalamy in southeastern France to pick up three Corsican police inspectors, delivering them safely to Tempsford on a flight that lasted a total of nearly 7hr.

The Mars picked up their water-loads from Cowichan Lake, about ten miles away - retractable probes enabling them to skim the lake surface at 70 m.p.h. and scoop up 30 tons of water in less than half a minute.

Hunting Jet Provost T.5A G-BYED/XW302 landed short of runway 26 at the City of Derry airport, Eglinton, on February 12, 2001, coming to rest on tidal mudflats of Lough Foyle. The solo pilot of the Eglinton-based aircraft was shaken but unhurt and the Provost was not seriously damaged in the accident - but the incoming tide soon submerged the former RAF trainer, and it is thought to be a write-off. On February 15 G-BYED was lifted from the mudflats by an RAF Chinook, and flown back to Eglinton for examination.
