The subtle curves of the Spitfire are exemplified here by HF Mk IXE MA793 “PT462” (“PT672” ???) Evelyn, photographed in the late 1970s in South Africa. The washout on the wings, providing reduced incidence at the tips to prevent tip-stalling, is barely discernible to the eye. This aircraft is now “EN398”/JE-J, assigned to the TAM Museum in Brazil.
