Регистрационный номер: NC12225 HIGH-SPEED AIR SERVICES: Varney Speed Lines, Ltd., operate a high-speed passenger and mail service between Los Angeles and San Francisco, a distance of 375 miles. Lockheed "Orion" monoplanes (450-h.p. Pratt & Whitney "Wasp") - one of which, "North Wind," is shown here - are used, and accomplish the journey in 1 hr. 58 min. at a speed of about 182 m.p.h.
Sister ship to NC12226 "East Wind" which crashed 25.3.33 was Varney Speed Lanes Lockheed Orion NC12225 'North Wind" seen with the all-white high gloss finish with vermillion markings and trim carried by all six Varney Orions. The six-passenger cabin monoplane with retractable undercarriage was a leader in its field.Самолёты на фотографии: Lockheed Orion 9 - США - 1931

The Breda 19, as flown by Colaccichi in his 18.1.33 upside-down record, was a popular aerobatic mount in Italy. Here Colombo leads seven of the Italian Air Force Aerobatic Team Breda 19s in inverted formation. Numbers 1, 3, 4, 6 and 10 are clearly visible beneath the wings.

Регистрационный номер: G-ABLE, VR-NAH Seen at Panshanger on 21.9.62 (in days before the Editor's Box Brownie was fitted with a wide-angle lens) Cessna 170A G-ABLE still raises questions about the use of these marks.
Het Vliegveld 18.1.32: The re-issued registration marks G-ABLE are still a bit of a mystery, they were formerly allocated to the Vickers-Supermarine 179 flying boat which was not completed. The Cessna 170A, formerly VR-NAH, was owned by C J W Audrey in 1961 and then E A Scrimshire at Panshanger but why were these particular marks used? Mike Jerram recalls seeing a photo in the Portsmouth local paper of the recently-arrived [Clark] G-ABLE parked with Neville Duke's Comanche [Greta] G-ARBO, maybe this Hollywood juxtaposition arose from the coincidence of the latter being spotted by the importer of the Cessna - but how was the ARB persuaded? Nor was this the first such post-war reallocation (as a number of readers spotted!): G-AERO was originally a C.W.A. Swan, uncompleted but usurped by the Temple Press ("Aeroplane") Autocrat formerly G-AHHE on 31.5.46. Not to be outdone, Iliffe & Sons ("Flight") in 6.49 gave their Gemini the regn G-AFLT previously allocated to an Aeronca 100/Ely 700 which was scrapped during the war (but was it ever completed?). So, putting aside the power of the Press, G-ABLE seems to have been the first private reissue post-war, but whatever happened to it? The CofA expired in 1973 and it seems to have last been noted at Hum about that time.Самолёты на фотографии: Cessna 120 / 140 / 170 - США - 1945

Регистрационный номер: SP-AJU From an original print, this rare photo of Skarzynski's one-off RWD 5bis SP-AJU was taken at Maceio, Brazil, where he landed on 8.5.33 at the end of his record-breaking flight across the South Atlantic from Senegal in Africa.
Het Vliegveld 08.05.33: The Pole Skarzynski, who left St.Louis de Senegal the day before, lands with his RWD with Gipsy III engine after 19fi hours at Maceio, Brazil.
Het Vliegveld 08.05.33: Polish Air Force Capt Stanislaw Skarzynski planned his flight to Brazil in order to break the FAI Distance Record for Category 2 - single-seat aircraft of less than 450 kg (992 lb). In collaboration with the designers of the RWD company (formed by Rogalski, Wigura and Drzewieski in 1929) he obtained RWD 5bis SP-AJU c/n 67, this being a single-seat version with a 300 litre (66 gal) tank in place of the rear seat, extra wing tankage, rear doors and windows not fitted, strengthened undercarriage and the increased power of a 130 hp Gipsy Major engine. Following a test flight around Poland in 4.33, he left Warsaw on 27.4.33 and took off from St Louis de Senegal for the record attempt at 2300 hrs on 7.5.33. The landing was made at Maceio in Brazil at 1930 hrs on 8.5.33, the elapsed time being given as 20 hrs 30 min, indicating that the times given took the time zone change into account. The important figure however is the distance of 3,582 km (2,225 miles) for the crossing which broke the Category 2 record. Skarzynski carried 752 litres of fuel (165.4 Imp gal) and still had sufficient for several hours (estimated 5,000 km range) when he landed due to the onset of darkness. After touring Brazil he returned with SP-AJU on the liner "Avila Star" to Boulogne and then flew on to Warsaw to a hero's welcome on 24.6.33.Самолёты на фотографии: RWD RWD-5 - Польша - 1931

Регистрационный номер: F-AJGY No photo of F-ALCE from the 28.4.33 accident is available, but this view of an apparently unregistered example shows the characteristics of the CAMS 53 series biplane flying boat with its tandem tractor-pusher engine installation. Accommodation consisted of an enclosed cabin for the two crew, a radio compartment, lavatory and cabin for 4 passengers.
