Free French Air Force Bell P-39 Airacobra 218775 at Catama, Sicily on October 14, 1943. The USAAF operated the type in North Africa on ground attack duties from late 1942 and the Free French took delivery of 165 Airacobras many of which were based in North Africa.
Westland Lysander Mk II P9191 at El Kabrit, Egypt, on February 10, 1943. This aircraft flew with 267 Sqn and was struck off RAF charge in June 1945.
This SNCASE-built LeO 451 of the French Air Force was photographed at Tunis Main on August 10, 1943. The construction number 487 is visible on the rudder.
This Caudron C.449 Goeland (Seagull) commercial transport, F-BACP, was pressed into Free French service and is seen at Tunis Main on August 10, 1943.
An unidentified Miles Whitney Straight of the Free French Air Force, seen at El Kabrit, Egypt, on December 1, 1942. The chalk words on the rudder indicate that the tailwheel was unserviceable. Several Whitney Straights were sold in France before the war, perhaps one of them found its way to Egypt.
