Waterbombing PBY-5 Catalina C-FHNH was photographed on April 30, 1983 at Southend while being ferried from Lisbon to Oslo, on lease to Haydu Air Charter.
Reader G. Markey of Ongar, Essex, sent this picture, which came from Xavier Turro of Rossos in northern Spain. It depicts the remains of a Typhoon which were raised from the Bay of Rossos in November 1979, where they had been snagging fishermen's nets for years. Locals remember the pilot swimming ashore and being interned. Do readers know the identity of the aircraft or its current whereabouts?
Don Cashmere's Sopwith Tabloid reproduction G-BFDE, now with its ailerons replaced by wing warping, has its 80 h.p. Gnome rotary engine offered up at Cardington for fitting in the new mount. It is due to go on display at the Bomber Command Museum, Hendon, very shortly.
The last Sikorsky VS-44A flying boat, N41881 Excambian, is to join the Bradley Air Museum in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, on permanent loan from the US Naval Air Museum in Pensacola, Florida.
