  • The Northrop 8A-5 was a light bomber used by the US Army Air Corps as the A-17A which differed from the 198 A-17s by having a retractable undercarriage. The French Government bought 93 A-17As but after the Armistice, these were taken over by the British Air Commission. As they were obsolescent and the RAF had no requirement for single-engined bombers, 32 were sent to Canada for use at Bombing & Gunnery Schools, mainly as target tugs. 3495 is seen with its target-towing stripes.
