Halifax C.VII PP217 of the Transport Command Development Unit at RAF Brize Norton on September 2, 1946. The line-up of German aircraft in the background includes Ju 52/3ms, Ju 290A, He 219A, Si 204Ds and Ju 88s. After RAF service PP217 was allocated the civil registration G-AKJF for London Aero Motor Services Ltd, but was later sold to Sky Taxis of Johannesburg.

An 1832 Sqn Seafire F.XVII, serial unknown but coded 128, comes to rest amid a cloud of glycol after taking the barrier on HMS Implacable. The squadron was based at Culham from July 1947 until July 1953, and carried out annual training on Implacable on July 9-23, 1949.

Another catch for Implacable's barrier: 1832 Sqn Seafire F.XV SW919, coded CH-115. Implacable will be remembered as the carrier from which the first British twin-jet flights were made, by Eric “Winkle" Brown in Meteor EE337 during the summer of 1949. The 32,110-ton carrier was ordered in 1939 and was launched, after much delay, on December 10, 1942. Nearly two more years elapsed before she was commissioned, on August 28, 1944 - almost too late to give major service in the war for which she was designed.
