Training as an RAF pilot in Rhodesia during World War Two, Tony Benn flew de Havilland Tiger Moths, Fairchild Cornells, Airspeed Oxfords and Avro Ansons. These are Oxfords of No 24 Air School, SAAF, based at Nigel in the Transvaal.

Tony’s eldest brother Michael flew Beaufighters with the RAF and then Mosquitoes with 21 Sqn, taking part in the Amiens Prison raid on February 18, 1944. Seen here is a 21 Sqn Mosquito FB.VI on a Noball anti-V1 flying bomb operation in 1944.
