The first two Sepecat Jaguar Internationals for the Indian A.F. - a two-seat trainer serialled J1001 (foreground) and single-seat J1003 - were handed over by British Aerospace at Warton on 19th July 1979. They are ex-R.A.F. machines fitted with uprated Adour 804 engines. The Indian A.F. plans to acquire about 150 Jaguars, 110 of which will be built under licence by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.

The first production Tornado, GR.1 ZA319 (alias BT.001), during its first flight at Warton on 10th July 1979. Germany's GT.001 flew at MSB's Manching airfield on 27th July.

The Royal Navy’s first Hawker Siddeley Sea Harrier FRS.1, XZ451 of No. 700A Squadron, R.N.A.S. Yeovilton, now carries 700A's new markings on its fin - a harrier falcon superimposed on a large "A” - plus code ”100" on the nose. It is seen at R.N.A.S. Culdrose’s Air Day on 25th July 1979.

Bryan Allen pedalling his way to fame in Paul MacCready's Gossamer Albatross on 12th June 1979 when he made the first man-powered flight across the English Channel from Folkestone to Cap Gris Nez. Award of the £100,000 Kremer Prize was ratified by the Royal Aeronautical Society on 30th July.
