Miles M.3A Falcon Major G-ADLI was built in 1935. After several pre-war owners the Falcon survived the war but was destroyed at Elstree on September 10, 1952.

This Avro 19 Series 1, part of the Croydon scenery for many years, is seen here when it was owned by the Minister of Civil Aviation. Later it passed to Channel Air Services of Jersey, and then to Fairways (Jersey) Ltd, ending its days in dereliction at Croydon up to 1960.

Island Air Charters’ Dragon Rapide G-AHPT in from its Jersey base. Formerly R9550 in the RAF, 'PT received its first C of A in October 1946, the month that it was sold to IAC. This Rapide continued to fly with different operators until it was burnt following a crash landing on the unfinished M1 motorway at Leverstock, Hertfordshire on July 7, 1959. At the time it was being operated for Tarmac Ltd from nearby Elstree.

Avro 626 G-AVHO, formerly K5066 in the RAF, was civilianised in 1946 and registered on July 9. When this photograph was taken it was owned by A. G. Harding of Hastings. It was scrapped at Hastings in 1950.

The ill-fated Lockheed Model 14-H G-AKPD, photographed in October 1948. This may well have been the last photograph taken of it in one piece, for it left shortly after en route to Australia. Within hours it was reported missing. During the deep sea search for the remains of the D.H.106 Comet remains off Elba, the barnacle-encrusted fuselage of the Lockheed was recovered.

Miles Aerovan Mk 4 G-AILF was aptly leased to Pickfords when this photograph was taken. It survived until August 20, 1950 when it was damaged beyond repair following a landing at Guernsey.

Miles M.18 Mk 3 G-AHOA was built in 1943 and first flown at Woodley as U-3, later becoming U-0238. After the war it was civilianised and purchased in 1948 by Mrs E. M. Porteous, who based it at Burnaston, Derby. After being sold to Tom Hayhow 'OA was lost in a crash at Littondale, Yorks on May 25, 1950. Similar to the Miles M.18 Mk 2, the Mk 3 sported an enclosed cockpit.

It is 1120hr on a dull spring day at Croydon in 1948. In front of the tower is the Goodyear GA-2 Duck NC5506M, over from the USA on a European sales tour and brought over by James A. Goodson, former RCAF/RAF Eagle Squadron/Eighth Air Force ace. Powered by a 145 h.p. flat-six Franklin engine, the 36ft 9in span amphibian was fitted with castoring wheels. A three-seater, it cruised at 115 m.p.h. About 15 were built by Goodyear.
