Hawker Hunter FGA.9 XJ683 coming in to land at RAF Kuching on January 17, 1965. This 20 Sqn Hunter entered service with the FEAF in 1961. Designed for tropical work and to replace the ageing Venoms serving with the RAF in the Middle East, the FGA.9 carried two 230gal drop tanks, was fitted with additional underwing hard-points for ground attack weapons and carried a tail parachute.

34 Squadron Blackburn Beverley C.1 XB260 was the second production aircraft and is pictured here at Kuching on April 24, 1965. The first of 47 Beverleys supplied to the RAF entered service in March 1956; the type was finally withdrawn 11yr later.

Handley Page Hastings C.2 WD488 with Beverley XB264 in the background. The Far East Air Force's 48 Squadron first received its Hastings in August 1957. The type entered RAF service in October 1948 and the last Hastings were retired in January 1968, though four remained with No 230 OCU's Radar Flight at RAF Scampton until 1977.

RAF Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer CC.1 XM962 pictured at Kuching, Sarawak on September 22, 1963. This 209 Sqn “Twin Pin" flew supply missions in Borneo during the confrontation with Indonesia in 1962-66. Introduced into RAF service in 1958, the Twin Pioneer did valuable service in the Middle East, Far East and Kenya before being retired from front-line duties at the end of 1968. In the foreground of this picture are two Army Auster AOP.9s.

Royal Australian Air Force Convair 440 A96-353 at RAF Kuching on April 30, 1966. No 34 Squadron RAAF acquired two Convair Metropolitans in 1955 for use on the VIP Flight.

Vickers Valetta C.1 VW808 pictured at Kuching, Sarawak on October 25, 1964. No 52 Squadron s Valettas were based at Butterworth during this period with the RAFFE and were involved in supply and transport duties during the Indonesian campaign. The Valetta was first received into RAF service in 1948 and the last Valetta, VX573, was retired in 1969 and destined for the RAF Museum.

Scottish Aviation Pioneer CC.1 XL666 photographed at RAF Kuching on May 23, 1964. Nos 20 and 209 Squadrons operated Pioneers in the Far East during the Sixties. The first of 40 Pioneers for the RAF entered RAF service in February 1954, with 267 Squadron. Some were still in service in 1969.
