Roger Anthoine submits photographs of a large section of fuselage from Short Stirling LK142 bearing unit code 5T-A, shot down near Spincourt, France, on a supply-dropping sortie on September 24, 1944. It is displayed at a small museum at Vraux, not far from Chalons-sur-Marne and Reims, and the serial belongs to a 196 Squadron aircraft which dropped supplies to the Resistance. However, 5T was the code for 233 Squadron, which used Dakotas, while 196's code was 7T or ZO. Can anyone explain?

The aircraft is G-ADEA, registered on May 18, A 1935, and christened Drake by Lady Cunliffe-Lister on June 20 that year when it began an accelerated service between London (Stapleford) and Paris. Three services daily were flown between London and Brussels via Ostend, and Belfast and Glasgow were also served. We do not know where this photograph was taken, but the aircraft went to Singapore as VR-SBC in June 1938.
