Looking handsome in the colours of the USAAF's 350th Fighter Squadron, 353rd Fighter Group, based at Raydon in Suffolk during 1945, Maurice Hammond's North American P-51D 44-14419/G-MSTG Janie made its first post-restoration flight on July 13, 2001, becoming the most recent example of the Mustang to make its appearance on the UK warbird circuit. It was photographed by RICHARD PAVER at 5,000ft above East Anglia en route from its base at Hardwick, Norfolk, to a fly-in at North Weald on September 22, 2001, with the owner at the controls and his daughter Leah in the back seat.
