de Havilland DH.104 Dove
Для создания замены самолету Dragon Rapide после Второй мировой войны группа конструкторов компании под руководством Р. Е. Бишопа в 1944 году начала работы над свободнонесущим низкопланом цельнометаллической конструкции с обтянутыми полотном рулями высоты и направления. Силовая установка состояла из двух моторов Gipsy Queen, а полностью флюгируемые и реверсивные винты постоянной скорости вращения сделали DH.104 Dove первым британским транспортным самолетом, использующим реверсивные воздушные винты для обеспечения торможения. В салоне обычно размещалось от 8 до 11 пассажиров.
Прототип совершил первый полет 25 сентября 1945 года и продемонстрировал наличие некоторых недостатков в исходном проекте. Для повышения устойчивости в полете на одном двигателе сначала добавили форкиль, позже модернизировали рули высоты, верх фюзеляжа выполнили куполообразным для увеличения внутренней высоты салона. На серийные варианты Dove устанавливались моторы Gipsy Queen различных марок. Двигатели Gipsy Queen 70 и 70-3 мощностью 330 л. с. Ряд переделанных самолетов Dove позднее применялся фирмой "Riley Aircraft" в США в варианте Riley Turbo Executive 400, с поршневыми моторами Lycoming IO-720-A1A мощностью 400 л. с. (298 кВт), с восемью горизонтально расположенными цилиндрами. Фирма "Carstedt Inc." в Лонг-Бич, штат Калифорния, установила два турбовинтовых двигателя Garrett AirResearch TPE331 мощностью 605 л.с. (451 кВт) и удлинила фюзеляж для размещения 18 пассажиров: эта версия Carstedt Jet Liner 600 поставлялась, прежде всего, фирме "Apache Airlines" в Феникс, штат Аризона.
Как и Dragon Rapide, которого он заменил и дополнил, самолет Dove оказался вполне надежным и популярным. До завершения производства в 1968 году серийно собрали более 542 машин. At 1835hr G-AOXL left the apron and at 1839hr it was airborne, bound for Rotterdam. This was the last service to operate from Croydon, and the airport was officially closed at 2230hr. On the left is the nose of Morton's Dove G-ANAN which had operated the last service to arrive at the airport. It landed at 1720hr, having flown from a Newmarket race meeting.

The four Devon C.2s of the RAE Communications Flight were withdrawn during late 1985 in favour of three Piper PA-31 Navajo Chieftains. The Devons are seen here in formation, shortly before their retirement. The Navajo lasted only a short period as these loo were withdrawn, and the communications flight disbanded during March 1993. Two of the Devons, XN223 and VP959 continued in service at West Freugh for sonobuoy trials.

Given the British registration G-ATGL for its return to the UK, this aircraft remained in Amman while the other three Doves and two Herons were ferried back to Luton, the author ferrying 'TGL back the following month.

Another unusual type photographed at LAP by John Stroud was de Havilland Hornet F.3 PX396 in May 1948. The sleek but pugnacious-looking fighter may have been on its way to Linton-on-Ouse to join No 64 Sqn, with which it served with the codes SH-O. Note also two other de Havilland types in the background; nearest is a Mosquito, behind which is a Dove.
