The Meteor NF Mk 11 was the first of the two-seat night fighter variants of the Gloster jet fighter, produced for the RAF by Sir W G Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft. This example bears the markings of No 68 Squadron, with Commanding Officer's stripes on the fin and Station Commander's pennant on the nose.

The Meteor NF Mk 13 was externally similar to the NF Mk 11, of which it was a tropicalised variant for RAF service in the Middle East. The Egyptian Air Force, in whose markings this example is illustrated, acquired six surplus NF Mk 13s in mid-1955. Three were destroyed during the Suez Canal conflict at the end of 1956.

The only combat aircraft in EAF service to wear camouflage during the Crisis were the five Meteor NF.13s still in service with No 10 Sqn at Almaza, including “1428”, as seen here. The nightfighters were painted in Medium Sea Grey and Dark Green and wore the standard roundels and fin flashes, but no fuselage or wingtip black stripes.

Some 50 of the Meteor NF Mk 11s were converted to serve in the target-towing role, for which purpose an ML Aviation Type G wind-driven winch was mounted above the starboard wing. They were designated Meteor TT Mk 20, this example serving with the Fleet Requirements Unit at Hal Far, Malta.

Six of the 20 Meteor NF Mk 11s sold to the Royal Danish Air Force were converted to TT Mk 20 standard and four of these were operated on behalf of the RDAF by Swedish company Svenska Flygtjanst.

It was struck off charge in 1967 after the Mediterranean Fleet was reduced in size.

The Empire Test Pilots School was resident at Farnborough from 1946 until 1968 occupying the hangar on the south side of the airfield, this now being used today as the civil enclave. In this view are some of the ETPS fleet at Farnborough during 1961. An unusual sight in American skies is the Gloster Meteor NF.11 seen being flown by Skip Holm. Obtained in the early Seventies from Malta, it was ferried to Mojave, California by Jeff Hawke for new owner Al Letcher, who operated it for several years before its airworthiness lapsed. Subsequently acquired by Al Hansen and Ascher Ward, the Meteor is now back in flying condition and was photographed by MICHAEL O'LEARY during its first post-restoration test flight at Mojave in October 1989.

Meteor NF.Mk 12. В 1950-е годы на самолетах Истребительного командования британских ВВС вместо двухбуквенных кодов ввели цветную маркировку. На киле располагалась стилизованная эмблема эскадрильи, а по сторонам от знака государственной принадлежности - цветные полосы ("ленты"), указывавшие на принадлежность к эскадрилье. Самолеты 153-й эскадрильи 11-й группы, авиабаза Вест Моллинг, графство Кент, несли белые с черной окантовкой и красными шевронами "ленты" на фюзеляже и летучую мышь на фоне шестиконечной звезды на киле. Самолеты разных звеньев 153-й эскадрильи различались по цвету передней кромки воздухозаборников и обтекателя на киле. Красный цвет - звено "А".
