EGYPT TESTS HER DEFENCES. Massed flights took place over Cairo last week, the population being greatly impressed by Britain's air strength. Here are three Bristol Blenheims flying over the pyramids.
These Bristol Blenheims, were part of a massed flypast over Cairo in May 1940, staged to impress the locals with Britain’s air might.

Регистрационный номер: G-AERU, G-AERX Two BOAC Junkers Ju 52/3m transports were at Takoradi from November 1940 into 1941, and one of them is seen here with a couple of Blenheim IVs, “4” and “3”, in the background. Both of the Ju 52/3ms went to Sabena in the Belgian Congo, G-AERU as spares in April 1941, and G-AERX in September 1941.

An unusual aerial study of “Kilo 40”, alias LG237/Gebel Hamzi, north-west of Cairo, taken on March 22, 1944. Apart fom the lone ASV radar-equipped “stickleback” Vickers Wellington in the foreground and two more of its kind in the far distance, all of the other aeroplanes in view are Martin Marylands.

One of the BOAC types used on the return flights, transporting aircrew back to Takoradi, was the de Havilland D.H.86. This one has acquired a moustachioed face and the slogan “Keep smiling lads” on its nose.

A Short C-Class Empire Flying Boat basks in the sunset at Gordon’s Tree, near Khartoum. These BOAC aircraft were also used to return pilots to Takoradi.
