Still serving the USAF well over 35 years after delivery, this FY1957-vintage KC-135R, 57-1472 from the Air Force Reserve/434th Wing/72nd ARS at Grissom AFB, is seen on approach to Nellis AFB on October 11, 1994. Re-engined with CFM56 turbofans, large numbers of KC-135Rs remain in USAF service.

Both the An-24 and An-26 are of similar configuration, the latter differing in having uprated engines and a beaver-tail type rear fuselage. The An-24 seen here is one of around 100 used by the Russian Air Force for general transport duties.

Widely used for many years by eastern European countries, despite its age the An-12 soldiers on in service with many air arms. This is the last active Czech Air Force example, 2105 from the Ist Transport Regiment, seen at IAT Fairford on July 20, 1991.

Регистрационный номер: N400NC Although the number of Caribou operators is dwindling slowly, the type is now being re-engined with PT6A turboprops in an effort to attract new buyers although to date no military customers have taken up this option. The example here, N400NC, was seen routing through Ipswich, Suffolk on April 9, 1989, en route to NewCal Aviation for turboprop conversion as the prototype DHC-4T - it reflew on November 16, 1991, but was destroyed in a fatal takeoff crash at Gimli, Manitoba, on August 27, 1992.

Upgraded and modified with new turboprops, the DHC-4 became the DHC-5 Buffalo and continues to serve with around 16 air arms. This example, 214, is seen prior to delivery to the Kenyan Air Force on November 5, 1986. Although this aircraft was written-off in 1982, the nine other examples delivered to Kenya remain in service.
