"Squadron Leader Farquhar, a young Scottish Auxiliary Air Force pilot, claimed his third victim during the present month. While on patrol in a Spitfire he sighted the bomber, though he expended only a small amount of ammunition the accuracy of his shooting put both engines of the enemy aircraft out of action. He was also responsible for bringing down the Heinkel on Oct. 28, '39 - the first enemy raider to fall on British soil. It was the same squadron that brought down the Heinkel near St. Abb's Head. Sq'dn. L'dr. Farquhar, in his Spitfire, followed the enemy pilot down and landed his own aircraft not far away. He was too late however to prevent the German airmen from destroying their machine. During his visit to an East of Scotland Fighter Command Station the King decorated Squadron Leader Andrew Douglas Farquhar with the Distinguished Flying Cross." (The Daily Telegraph, 27.2.'40)
