These provisional general arrangement drawings depict the An-400 Condor strategic transport, which, currently under test, is only marginally smaller than the C-5 Galaxy.
The Mi-8, seen here in its Hip-E version which has the distinction of being the world's most heavily armed helicopter.
Ми-8Т стал первой массовой модификацией "восьмерки" и выпускался в больших количествах для военного и гражданского применения. Машина на снимке отличается коробом доплеровского измерителя скорости раннего типа на хвостовой балке.
The Mi-8 and the more powerful Mi-17 are numerically the most important of current Soviet helicopters, over 10,000 having been produced at Kazan and Ulan Ude. Seen here is the widely-used Hip-C version of the Mi-8.
This provisional general arrangement drawing illustrates the MiG-29 Fulcrum, which, having attained initial operational capability, is expected to be widely deployed in the Western Theatre by the late 'eighties.
Таким предстал "МиГ-25МП" на страницах альманаха Министерства обороны США "Советская военная мощь". Художник оказался недалек от истины.
The provisional artist's impression portray the MiG-31 Foxhound, one of the latest generation of Soviet fighters. The MiG-31 Foxhound has been in service with the APVO since last year and some 60 are currently operational. Fighter have a pulse Doppler weapons system, infrared search and tracking, and a digital data link.
This provisional drawings show the general configuration of the MiG-31 Foxhound. It carries long-range AA-9 AAMs.
The provisional artist's impression portray the Su-27 Flanker, one of the latest generation of Soviet fighters. The Flanker, which is in production at Komsomolsk, is most closely comparable with the F-15 Eagle and is expected to attain initial operational capability late this year or early next. Fighter have a pulse Doppler weapons system, infrared search and tracking, and a digital data link.
This provisional drawing show the general configuration of the Su-27 Flanker. It carries medium-range AA-X-10 AAMs.
The Tu-22M Backfire-B, currently serving with both Strategic Aviation and the Naval Air Force, is now reportedly being built at a rate of more than 35 annually and is being matched with the AS-X-15 long-range cruise missile.
The Tupolev Blackjack, illustrated by a provisional general arrangement drawing, will endow SovAir with true strategic capability when it attains IOC later in the decade.
The Mi-14 Haze is now the Soviet Navy's most widely deployed shore-based ASW helicopter.
The Tu-142 Bear-D has been in Soviet Navy service for some 20 years, prominent features including its immense I-band "Big Bulge" ventral radar housing and its J-band "Short Horn" chin radome. Its missions include target detection for warship-launched missiles and subsequent missile in-flight course correction.

Despite its civil registration, the An-12 Cub-D is an electronic intelligence and countermeasures aircraft
Mikoyan MiG-23MF Flogger-B
Perhaps the most efficacious of current Soviet warplanes, the Su-24 Fencer is currently operated by both Frontal and Strategic Aviation with some 450 in service. The number of Fencers assigned to strategic tasks is expected to increase by some 50 per cent over the next few years.
The Su-17 Fitter-H attack aircraft, widely used by Frontal Aviation, is seen here with a centreline reconnaissance pod
These provisional general arrangement drawings depict the Ilyushin Mainstay AWACS aircraft, which is now entering SovAir service.
The Tu-142 Bear-F has a smaller l-band ventral radar housing than that of the Bear-D and lacks the chin-mounted radome. Other changes introduced by this version include raised flight deck glazing and a lengthened forward fuselage. The example illustrated has a MAD boom extending aft from the tip of its vertical tail surfaces.
MiG-23BN Flogger-H ground attacker/interdictor aircraft of the Czechoslovak Air Force. The Flogger-H shares the raised cockpit and drooped nose incorporating laser ranger with the MiG-27 Flogger-D, but in virtually all other respects is similar to the MiG-23MF Flogger-B air combat fighter. The Flogger-H currently serves with the Bulgarian, Indian and Polish air forces in addition to that of Czechoslovakia.
Although now ageing, the Tu-16 Badger-C, seen here with an AS-6 Kingfish missile under the port wing, still occupies an important place in the SovAir inventory.
Another Il-18 derivative, the Il-20 Coot-A, fulfils electronic countermeasures and intelligence tasks.
The Su-15 Flagon-F still equips a substantial proportion of the APVO, but has range-only radar and carries the comparatively early IR-guided AA-3 Anab AAMs. It is expected to phase out in favour of interceptors with lookdown/shootdown capability during the next two-three years.
This close-up shows the paired cannon pods frequently carried by the Flagon-F in addition to the Anab AAMs.
