Charles Cain, who was very taken with Geoffrey Jones' book on the Hudson, looked through his own files and produced this intriguing picture, not of a Hudson, but of a Lockheed Model 18 Lodestar, ex 42-25607, in French A.F. colours at a base in French North Africa circa end of W.W.II. In the background are a turretless B-25J Mitchell VIP transport, two U.S.A.A.F. B-17 Fortresses (one without turrets), a Dauntless, a Commando, Dakotas, LeO 451s, A-26 Invaders and (to the right) two 1939-vintage Douglas DB-7B3s.

Is it real?... No, it’s an Airfix F-15 Eagle, made up “straight from the box” and photographed against a printed backdrop. The photograph is un-retouched, a tribute to the accuracy and realism of this superb kit of this air-superiority fighter.

On view at R.N.A.S. Yeovilton's Air Day on 1st August 1980 was H.M.S. "Amazon's" Westland Lynx HAS.2 XZ246 with dummy Sea Skua air-to-surface missiles, portent of the real thing.

Another Lynx improvement is the fitting of ESM equipment in the box seen on the nose of H.M.S. "Danae's" XZ699. At present all Lynx are parented by No.702 Squadron which will concentrate on training when No.815 re-forms; all Lynx are likely to move from Yeovilton to Portland next year.

Among the more unusual types at R.A.F. Alconbury for the U.S.A.F.'s Air Show on 16th August 1980 was A. E. Hutton's Czech-built Yak-11 G-AYAK, which forced-landed in Cyprus in 1964 and was rebuilt by personal Plane Services in 1970;
