Airspeed AS.57 Ambassador
Комитет лорда Брабазона, созданный в годы Второй мировой войны, отвечал за разработку стратегии послевоенного развития британской гражданской авиации. В отчете комитета, сделанном в начале 1943 года, рекомендовалось спроектировать и построить двухмоторный ближнемагистральный самолет, способный перевозить 30 пассажиров.
В результате появился авиалайнер Airspeed AS.57 Ambassador, к разработке которого команда, руководимая Артуром Хэггом, приступила еще во время войны. Прототип AS.57 поднялся в воздух 10 июля 1947 года, но только через год был получен первый и единственный заказ от авиакомпании "British European Airways" (BEA) на 20 машин.
Ambassador был красивым цельнометаллическим монопланом с высокорасположенным крылом. Конструкция фюзеляжа была усилена для обеспечения наддува кабины. Отличительной особенностью самолета было высокорасположенное трехкилевое оперение. Стойки убирающегося шасси были оснащены сдвоенными колесами. Из-за технических проблем BEA смогла начать коммерческую эксплуатацию AS.57 только 13 марта 1952 года. Время было потеряно, появились более совершенные турбовинтовые лайнеры типа Vickers Viscount, и дальнейших заказов на Ambassador не последовало.
