Auster J-1 Autocrat, Aiglet и Workmaster

На завершающем этапе Второй мировой войны компания "British Taylorcraft" начала прогнозировать послевоенные перспективы продаж и после тщательного рассмотрения наиболее подходящим для себя выбрала разработку более экономичного варианта Auster Mk V. Для испытаний одну машину модифицировали, установив рядный двигатель Blackburn Cirrus Minor 2 мощностью 100 л.с. Одновременно началось создание прототипа на основе фюзеляжа разбившегося прототипа модели Plus D, который долгое время летал с обозначением J-1 Autocrat серии Taylorcraft Auster Mk V. 7 марта 1946 года компания сменила название на "Auster Aircraft Ltd.", а новый самолет - на Auster J-1 Autocrat.

    Tragedy struck the Kent flying community on the morning of November 15, 1993 when Biggin Hill-based, Auster J/1N G-APOA The Goldhawk Auster crashed, killing 18yr-old pilot Ben Harris and his 17yr-old passenger Gary Abdee. Owned by Ben’s father Colin and painted in the distinctive colours of his business, Goldhawk Print Services of Croydon, the aircraft came down at Chelsfield, five miles north-east of Biggin, about 5min after taking off on a local flight. An investigation is under way.

    Delivered new to Philips in 1949, this Taylorcraft Auster J/1 Autocrat flew with the company for four years as PH-LPS, taking the registration from the first Philips aircraft, Frits Philips’s Koolhoven F.K.46. As seen here, the Auster has been preserved in its original Philips livery and is currently on display at the Aviodrome in Lelystad.

    AUSTER Autocrat G-AJEM is now being reassembled following a ground-up restoration in Bryn Jones's workshop at Saundersfoot in Southwest Wales. Every item has been stripped during the rebuild, all nuts, bolts and split-pins are new, and new engine mounts have been installed for the Cirrus Minor 2A.
