Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress 42-29782, seen here in Boeing’s 737/757 assembly hall at Renton, is being rebuilt to zero-hour standard for the Seattle Museum of Flight by a team of 80 volunteers. Rollout is scheduled for early February 1997, with first flight in May.

The cockpit section of former Keenair Douglas C-47 Maggie Mae (ex-wartime USAAF 42-24211, in service on D-Day) was transported to Aalsmeerderbrug near Schiphol Airport in Holland in December 1996, for permanent display at the Luchtvaart Hobby Shop.

Grumman G21A Goose N93GS Caribbean Clipper (c/n B76) is up on cradles at Elstree awaiting spares after a starboard undercarriage collapse on arrival there from storage at Westcott last October. Currently cared for by Light Aircraft Engineering, the Pratt & Whitney R-985-powered amphibian had been flown across the Atlantic in August 1994 by owner Tom Friedrich, whose hopes to operate it in the Caribbean did not materialise.

The Society of Aircraft Restoration’s Messerschmitt Bf 109 replica running-up at Brookhaven, New York, on December 10, 1997. The Ranger V12 started on the sixth attempt. “The performance of the engine was even better than anticipated,” says the society, “with all hands greatly encouraged that sufficient power will be available to fly the aircraft safely."
