WELL NAMED: This picture gives an excellent impression of the new Lockheed Lightning single-seater fighter now being produced for the R.A.F. Officially known in America as the P-38, it is credited with having been clocked in level flight at 458 m.p.h. Powered by two 1,150 h.p. liquid-cooled Allisons, it has a service ceiling of well over 30,000ft and is said to have an exceptional high-altitude performance. All its armament is mounted in the nose of the nacelle.

The Fairey F.C.1 was designed to have a pressure cabin to take thirty passengers. Auxiliary lifting surfaces which retract into the main wing give increased lift for landing and take-off. A nose wheel undercarriage was part of the projected design.
This picture of a model of the Fairey F.C-1. gives a good idea of how the machine will look. It is possible that the triple-rudder arrangement will give way to a twin-rudder type of tail. The engines will be Bristol Taurus of about 1,000 h.p. each; it is expected to cruise at 220 m.p.h.Самолёты на фотографии: Fairey FC.1 - FC.6 - Великобритания - 1939
