Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet и EA-18 Growler

Prototype McDonnell Douglas F/A-18E Super Hornet 165164 was officially rolled-out on September 18, 1995 and is seen here with a full array of weapons on ten of the eleven stations (the centreline pylon being empty) comprising, left to right, AIM-9 Sidewinder, AGM-88 HARM, AGM-84D Harpoon, AGM-84H SLAM-ER, AIM-120 AMRAAM, AN/AAS-46 targeting FLIR, BLU-109 JDAM, AGM-154 JSOW, AGM-65E Maverick and AIM-9 Sidewinder.

US Navy aircraft carriers have become veritable hornets' nests as not only are there first generation F/A-18s assigned to each air wing, but now also Super Hornets. An F/A-18E of VFA-27 Royal Maces launches of the deck of the USS Kitty Hawk into a forbidding sky in the South China Sea.

The squadron was deployed to Fallon with other elements of Carrier Air Wing 5 (CVW-5) which is home-based at Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan. Elements of the wing arrived at Fallon in late February to undertake the Strike Fighter Advanced Readiness Program run by the Naval Strike Air Warfare Center. Upon their return to Japan CVW-5 began preparations to cross-deck from the USS George Washington (CVN 73) to USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) later this year.
