A Russian SB bomber photographed in Spain, It will be seen that the machine is of creditably clean design.
A more modern bomber design is the mid-wing SB-2 with two M-25 engines of 750 h.p. each. Its speed is about 270 m.p.h. If well armed and armoured, this machine should be able to inflict some hard blows on eastern Germany.Самолёты на фотографии: Архангельский, Туполев СБ / АНТ-40 / ПС-40 - Россия - 1934

Fortress, Tomahawk and Boston - they all have their jobs to do, and more and more are arriving to do them. The initial order of 20 Fortresses has been completed, these having been flown over. The Tomahawks and the Bostons still come by sea, but even the Tomahawks may soon be flown via Greenland and Iceland, using auxiliary tanks which will be dropped when empty.

Note :- The general arrangements of the Boston also apply to the Havoc which is structurally the same machine but modified in certain respects for duty as a night fighter. No particulars of this, however, may be published. The Martin Maryland is now in service in the Middle East, many of these being the residue of the French contract which Britain took over when our ally collapsed. One curious result of this was that Marylands were operating on both sides in the recently-concluded strife with the Vichy troops in Syria.

THINGS ARE NOT ALWAYS WHAT THEY SEEM. In spite of the inscription on this picture, it does not show a British single-seater fighter shot down by the Italians. The exhaust stub "pattern" points unmistakably to a Hispano-Suiza engine, and the general appearance of the aircraft suggests Morane-Saulnier. It seems more likely that the machine belonged to the Free French Air Force, and that it was deliberately damaged before being abandoned; otherwise the undercarriage would hardly have been intact and one airscrew blade straight. The triple tail arrangement is noteworthy.

HEAT BLISTERS: The defensive armament of this Boeing YB-17 bomber, the first of thirteen for the U.S. Army Air Corps, is carried in a novel nose turret and four streamlined blister-like emplacements whence, so it is said, "the heat can be turned on" in practically all directions. The YB-17 is the largest landplane ever built in the U.S.A. and represents a class which has not so far featured in our own expansion programme. Four of the new Wright Cyclone "G" engines are fitted and a retractable undercarriage and tail wheel, flaps, v.p. airscrews, homing equipment, two-way R/T and an automatic pilot are specified.
THE BOEING FLYING FORTRESS is a successful example of a large aeroplane with single fin and rudder. The tailplane is set well forward.Самолёты на фотографии: Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress - США - 1935
